General Information

To fundraise for VisionSave, we at Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) are inviting you to participate in the inaugural ‘The Eye Run/Cycle 2021’. It is the first virtual fundraiser by SNEC and SERI to raise funds for VisionSave. All the proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards helping us uncover new ways to detect, diagnose and develop future treatments for eye diseases. It will also help train healthcare professionals to meet the ever-evolving needs of our patients.

Set your own target distance to run, cycle or walk. You may do it individually or form a team (2 to 10 participants). Social distance measures apply. Please abide by the Government advisory on COVID-19.

All participants of the Eye Run/Cycle will receive:

  1. A $50 Rudy Project cash voucher for the first 1,000 signups (valid in Singapore only)
  2. A Finisher T-shirt
  3. An E-certificate of Achievement
  4. A Finisher Medal (Optional @ $10)

We also have fabulous prizes to give away. The top 20 individual longest distances achieved in the Run (Individual & Team) will be awarded a Rudy Project sports eyewear.  The top 20 individual longest distances achieved in the Cycle (Individual & Team) will be awarded a Rudy Project sports helmet. Event

1. 1. This event (The Eye Run/Cycle 2021) is organized by Singapore National Eye Centre and Singapore Eye Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as the ‘Organizer’).

2. Participants take part in this event at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety when choosing their run/walk/cycle route. As a participant, you are encouraged to wear high-visibility clothes when running in dim lighting conditions for safety reasons. The Organiser accepts no responsibility for any accident, incident of any nature or injury sustained whilst taking part in the virtual event. The Organiser excludes any liability for personal injury or death that may arise due to your participation in this event.

3. By participating in this virtual challenge, you are accepting that JustRunLah! (the appointed event partner) will contact you to confirm your entry and keep you updated on the progress of your participation. Please note that you will be added to the JustRunLah! mailing list and you will receive updates on future events. You can unsubscribe from the JustRunLah! mailing list at any time.

4. After completing your daily run/walk/cycle, take a screenshot of the run/walk/cycle statistics (via a tracking app) and upload it onto the JustRunLah! online portal. If your upload cannot be validated, your challenge will be deemed as incomplete. As such, you will not be entitled to the finisher entitlements. In such circumstances, you will need to re-do the activities and upload new record(s) (within the challenge period). If you experience any difficulty in uploading your run/walk/cycle details, please contact JustRunLah! at support@justrunlah.com.

5. For participants who are in multiple teams, each completed run can only be counted as one unique uploaded entry. It cannot be used for same multiple entries in the multiple teams.

6. Uploading of run/walk/cycle records will be from 1 October 2021 to 30 November 2021. If you are unable to complete your run/walk/cycle and upload by the deadline, please write to support@justrunlah.com for assistance.

7. Finisher entitlements will be awarded to all participants who complete the distance in their respective category during the challenge period. The organizer has the rights to use the uploaded photos for publicity or sharing in social media.

Rules of Contest – Longest distance and Selfie 

1. The Contest is open to all participants.

2. Potential contestants or winners are subjected to verification of eligibility and compliance with all terms and conditions set forth. Account not registered with JustRunLah! Online portal (URL) will be disqualified immediately.

3. To be eligible to win, participants must abide to the instructions listed here. By entering the contest, the participants agree to comply with these rules and regulations.

4. For the longest distance contest, the accumulated distance completed by each participant will be calculated. If you are part of a team, your individual accumulated distance will be calculated. Each entry must be completed in full. The Organizer reserves the right to disqualify any incomplete entries in its sole and absolute discretion. Top 30 completed distance will be shown on the leaderboard on a weekly basis (a Monday). Final top 20 completed distance at the end of the event will be eligible for a prize. For Walk/Run category, the prize will be a Rudy Project sports eyewear. For Run category, the prize will be a Rudy Project sports helmet. In the event of a tie, a random draw will be made. In the event of dispute, the decision of the Organizer is final.

5. For the selfie contest, all selfies must be taken during the walk, run or cycle. Each uploaded entry must be completed in full. The Organizer reserves the right to disqualify any incomplete entries in its sole and absolute discretion. Judges will select the best selfie from each week’s uploaded entries in the microsite. The decision of the judges is final. There will be 10 Rudy Project lifestyle eyewear prizes to be awarded.

6. The best selfie will be announced on the microsite every Monday and winners for longest distance contest will be announced on the microsite at the end of the campaign. The Organizer will contact the winners through email to arrange for delivery of the prizes at the end of the campaign. Once notified, winner has to respond within 72 hours, failing which the Prize will be forfeited if not collected within the time frame stated after the announcement of winners.

7. All prizes won must be accepted as rewarded and are not transferable, exchangeable for cash or kind or extendable in validity. The Organizer reserves the right to substitute the prizes with others of equivalent value without prior notice.

Others

1. The Organizer shall have the right to reproduce and distribute your Submission for promotional purposes in broadcast, print and or other media as the Organizer may determine in their sole discretion. You agree that the Organizer owns all rights, title and interests in any compilation, collective work, or other derivative work created by the Organizer using or incorporating your Submission.

2. The Organizer reserves the right at its sole discretion to update, amend, replace or cancel the terms and conditions at any time. All participants are deemed to have accepted the updated terms and conditions by participating in the Contest.

3. If for any reason, all or part of the event and/ or contest is not capable of being executed as planned, or infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, action of entrants, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of the Organizer, corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Event and/ or Contest, the Organizer reserves the right in their sole discretion to disqualify any entry or entrant and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the contest (in whole or in part)and/or award the prize(s) from among all eligible entries received as of the date of the termination, as the Organizer determine in their sole discretion.

4. Participation in the Event and/ or Contest constitutes consent for the Organizer to obtain your name, email, and contact number and other information for the purpose of administering this Promotion. In addition, entering the Event and/ or Contest constitutes your consent for the Organizer to use your information to send you marketing communication, promotions and special offers they feel may be of interest to you. You may opt-out of the following by following the opt-out instructions in each marketing communication, promotion, or special offer.

5. By entering the Event and/ or Contest or accepting the prizes, you agree that no claim relating to such losses or injuries (including special, indirect and consequential losses) shall be asserted against the Organizer, its parent companies, affiliates, directors, officers, employees or agents from any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind resulting from the Contest and acceptance of any prize, including without limitation, personal injuries, death and property damage.

6. Photographs/videos/artwork should not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim, or interest in the photograph.

Submission of results

5. When can I start to submit my Run/Walk/Cycle results?
Run/Walk/Cycle submissions can only be allowed to be uploaded from 1st October – 30th November 2021.

Run/Walk/Cycle submissions received before or after these dates will not be accounted for.

6. What Apps should I use to capture my activity record(s)? Can I use a treadmill or indoor cycling equipment?
There are numerous GPS trackers such as:
• MapmyRun
• Strava
• Running
• Adidas Running
• Nike Running
• Apple Health App
• Samsung Health App
• Google Fit

You may use treadmills or indoor cycling equipment for this event. Please ensure that your upload captures the screen as well as a watch to indicate the date of the activity. This is needed for verification.

Step Trackers that do not provide details of distance and duration are not allowed.

7. How do I submit my Activity record?
Step 1:
Use the recommended GPS Tracker Apps or treadmill to record your Activity based on the submission dates per Question 6 above.

Step 2:
Take a screenshot of your Finished Activity, making sure that the date, distance, and duration of activity is clearly visible.

Step 3:
Upload your screenshot or photo via the link of your confirmation email or the ‘Upload’ tab.

Please have your registration ID available and fill in the details accordingly.

For ease of uploading, please access via the link from your confirmation email.

Step 4:
Once submitted, you will receive a notification email. You can then repeat step 1 again for your next activity and submission.

*Do note that any irrelevant or inaccurate submissions will be removed at the discretion of the organizers.

8. Is there a limit to how many results I am allowed to submit?
No, there is no limit to how many results you can submit. This is an accumulative run & cycle challenge. You may take as many or as few submissions, to complete the minimum distance that you have selected.

9. Can I submit more activity results even if I have completed my minimum distance?
Yes, you may still continue to submit your activity results after reaching the minimum distance that you have selected. Only submissions during the submission period per Question 5 above will be accepted.

In addition, the top 20 individual longest distances achieved in the Run (Individual & Team) will be awarded a Rudy Project sports eyewear.  The top 20 individual longest distances achieved in the Cycle (Individual & Team) will be awarded a Rudy Project sports helmet. Refer to T & C for Rules of Contest.

10. How will I know if my submission is received?
An email notification will be sent to you after each submission of your activity. We will notify you, if any of the submission is invalid or unclear and will require a new submission.

11. If I have joined 2 teams (or 1 team as well as individual), can I use the same run/cycle to upload the screenshots of my run for both teams?
No, you cannot. Each run/cycle is considered as one unique run. It cannot be used twice as we are encouraging more running/cycling and fairness. No ‘double dipping’.

Finishers’ entitlements

12. When will I receive my Finisher entitlements?
You will be reminded via email nearer to the date.

13. What if for whatever reason I am unable to complete my minimum distance, do I still get my finisher entitlements?
No, please note that only participants that complete their required minimum distance will be provided with their Finisher entitlements.

In celebrating the spirit of giving, we love to recognise the fundraising efforts of our champions by featuring the top 5 individuals/teams every month.

Prof Aung Tin is an eye doctor and a research scientist. He will be walking 200km in The Eye Run /Cycle to create awareness of this deadly and silent disease. He is hoping to raise $10,000 towards research & education. This will help to fight for sight.
CI A/Prof Doric Wong is a retina surgeon and also the Chief Risk Officer and deputy vice chair in Professionalism and Ethics. He will be running 100km in The Eye Run /Cycle spread over October and November to support the work of SNEC in research and education. He is hoping to raise $5,000 towards this run for sight.
Ms Kelly Keak is a business owner of MTM Labo Singapore. She is forming a mother-son tag team and attempt to cycle a distance of 40km in October and November. They hope to raise $3,000 through their effort.
CI A/Prof Quah is an eye specialist in SNEC. He will complete 2 marathons to raise $5000 towards research & education in blindness prevention and hopes to get your support towards his endeavor.
The Ocular Surfers & Ocular Surface Mania, led by Prof Louis Tong and his Ocular Surface Team are taking up a 310km cycle and run challenge. The team hopes to get your support to raise awareness on the importance of good eye healthcare.
Team SITA-Fast, led by Dr Natalia Porporato and her SERI Team (Dr Monisha Nongpiur, Dr Katharina Bell and Dr Bingyao Tan), consists of a group of clinician scientists and researchers in SERI/SNEC. They hope by running 400km, they can raise $5,000 in the race to prevent blindness.
Prof Jod Mehta is a corneal eye specialist in SNEC and also a research scientist specializing in cell research for corneal transplants. He is taking up a 2000km cycle challenge and hoping to raise $10,000.
The Low Vision Team, led by Lisa Ong and her Low Vision Team (Dr Anna Tan, Tan Zhen Kiat and Sim Kai Ting), runs the low vision service whereby they assess the patients to recommend appropriate visual aids/trainings to promote their independence. They are aiming to raise $10,000 in the 200km run to create awareness on visual impairment and promote access to resources that can empower the visually impaired.
Annie Chiam will attempt to walk a full marathon, 42.2km in October and November, in the hope to raise $5000.
Team Leg Miserables, led by A/Prof Xiaomeng Wang and her SERI Team (A/Prof Eranga Vithana, Ms. Sock Mun Lay, Dr. Beiying Qiu, Dr. Joyce Kwan, Dr. Rui Ning Chia), is a team of research scientists and clinicians in SERI and we develop new treatments, biomarkers, and drug delivery systems for blinding eye diseases to help many patients save their eyesight. They are are taking up a 360km run challenge to raise $1000.
Team Power Nursing, led by Sister Lim Mein Chee and her nursing Team, Shuhada, Cecilia and Sharon Lui, is a team of nurses working in SNEC and help many patients with eye diseases. They hope by running and walking 300km, they can raise $5000 in the race to fight blindness.
Glauco-Man Spin, led by A/Prof Shamira Perera and his fellow avid cyclists and superstar eye docs:, Prof Dan Milea, Prof Jonathan Crowston , Cl A/Prof Rahat Husain, Dr Arun Narayanaswamy and Dr Sesha Sudarshan are taking up a 900km cycle challenge to raise $3000.
Team Walk the talk, jog or run, led by Deputy Medical Director (Clinical) CI A/Prof Edmund Wong and his SNEC colleagues, COO, Mr Jim Gu, Director of Nursing, Dr Loh Huey Peng and Dr Christine Cheng are taking up a 500km run challenge to raise $10,000.
Team Eytificial Intelligence, led by A/Prof Daniel Ting, and his 9 team members will be walking/running 1000 km in the Eye Run/Cycle to create awareness about the power of using AI and digital technology in eye care delivery. They are hoping to raise $10,000 towards research and education to continue to innovate and develop new AI and digital technologies to reduce total incidence of blindness within and outside Singapore.
Team Glauco-Man Sprint, led by Dr Jayant V Iyer along with his team of fellow doctors & friends – Dr Low Jinrong, Dr Reuben Foo, Dr Sudarshan Seshasai & Mr Jason Tan – are taking up a 250km-run challenge. They aim to raise $100 per km run to reach their target of $25,000.
The Pharm’ily team, led by Dr Andrew Tsai and his Pharmacy Team, are taking up a 320km run challenge. They hope that they will be able to raise $10,000 to aid in the research for better therapy in eye care through their effort.
Team Support.Eye.Run, led by senior manager, Marlina Tay, together with her SERI Clinical Research Coordinators and fellow ‘chiong-sters’, Fong Yee Wei, Soh Zhi Da,Teo Hui Ting, Ooi Ya Ying , Anna Sim Tan Mei Yan Evelin, Wong Kai Li Kelly, Chua Xin Yi and Ng Kai Fang Stella are taking up a ‘4-D worthy’ 1168 km run challenge to raise $5000.
CI A/Prof Ho Ching Lin is a Senior Consultant ophthalmologist as well as director of Philanthropy and Development for the Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Programme (EYE ACP). She has pledged to cover 50km on foot in The Eye Run/Cycle to create awareness for glaucoma and other blinding diseases. As the Chair of the Eye Run, she hopes to raise $25,000 towards research and education that will preserve the eyesight of many people.
